Not necessarily the first thing you think of when putting together a four-wheel-driving kit, but a chainsaw can be an invaluable addition to your off-roading and camping.

Three and a half hours drive from San Francisco, the High Sierra Loop Trail in Yosemite National Park is a scenic loop great for day trips, or overnight stays, with some of the most iconic wilderness in the Sierra Nevada.

A “Swedish Torch” is a great trick for anyone with a chainsaw in their camping kit to quickly make a modest size fire for warmth, and convenient platform for cooking; particularly useful if you’re short on wood or cookware that’s suitable for a larger fire.

In my travels through Canada, a stand-out favorite is Banff, Alberta. Located at the south end of the Canadian Rockies, Banff marks the start of a series of amazing mountains, lakes, glaciers, ice fields, and wildlife.
